JORD Unique Timepieces for a Lifetime

**Disclosure: I have been provided with a JORD timepiece for the purposes of this review. I have not been compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed here are 100% my own.**

Helping people and giving gifts to those I care about has always been something I’ve done. For me it is not about the cost, the gift itself, or the occasion. It’s about doing something nice for others.  Seeing the happiness on their face is an added benefit, but not the why behind it. I was recently approached by JORD to partner with then and have the opportunity to receive a hand crafted watch, and I immediately knew who I wanted to gift it to. When choosing such a timeless piece, you want to take the person who will be receiving it into consideration. I never really thought about this until I was looking at their wide selection and I realized you could cater to the person in the actual piece itself.

While browsing I came across the Conway piece and I just knew this was the one. It has a gorgeous dark wood band and encasement, pared with a burgundy face, it is an amazing combination. And the photo’s online don’t do it justice. It is even more beautiful in person, an absolutely stunning combination of colors which makes for a perfect blend of masculinity and functionality. When considering which piece would best work for you, make sure to take into account what your daily routine is. For someone who does manual labor this particular watch may be best suited for a nice night out, not for work. But for a business man, it could would work perfect for every day use.

One of my personal favorite things in receiving this time piece was the box it came in. You’re probably thinking what is so special about a box. Oh no no no, allow me elaborate for you. It is not just any ordinary box, it is a cedar humidor box. For those that aren’t familiar, a humidor is box provides controlled air flow. So while your timepiece is in the box, as it is made of wood, you don’t have to worry about anything happening to it. Not only is it completely functional, it is almost as beautiful as the watch itself.

Make Memories & Travel Safely with the Toyota Tacoma #Giveaway

This is a sponsored post. I received compensation in exchange for writing this review. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

There are many reasons to buy a new vehicle. Looks, interior, special features, etc. But for me, the most import thing in purchasing a new car would be the safety features and how they relate to our experience. The 2016 Toyota Tacoma comes with a plethora of safety features.

NIK_1203 copy1

See I live in Oklahoma. Land of the unknown and crazy weather. This year we have already experienced an ice storm. While I am sure most of the native Oklahoman’s aren’t too effected by this type of weather, this little ole California girl gets quite nervous at traveling the roads during snow, ice or any type of major weather circumstances. So anything that helps keep my babies safe while I brave the roads is a huge plus in my book.

While I know a defroster may not be a big deal for some it’s big for me. To have a fully functioning defroster that not only works, but works good is an amazing thing when it is freezing cold outside, and half your vehicle is frozen solid in ice. The same goes for the mirror defrosters. Um genius!

NIK_1198 copy1

I have a serious love hate relationship with technology. I love the endless possibilities it brings, but I don’t like the distractions they can cause. But I have to gush about the technology in the Tacoma for a moment. With every new vehicle comes a new blind-spot to get used to. But that was not something that was an issue with the Tacoma because of the Blind Spot Monitor & Rear Cross-Trafiic Alert. It pretty much eliminates those heart racing moments we’ve all had when you may accidentally merge into a lane and not see a car in your blind-spot. A warning light will illuminate on your mirror should this situation arise. And then there is the back up camera. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert will sound off if you are too close to an object or a car.

I think too often we get stuck in the hustle and bustle of daily life that we forget to slow down and enjoy. Toyota helped give that moment to my daughter and I. We were able to attend our first college football game. Not only was this a first for both of us, but it was also her birthday! Now while I may get shamed for going to an OSU game and LOVING it (I live in Sooner land aka Norman), we were just in awe of feel and experience. It is something we will be able to look back on for many, many years to come.

Dark Dawn Review + a Giveaway

I love paranormal. Seriously madly deeply truly LOVE it. There’s something about it that just grabs me by every fiber of my being and takes me away to this far away land and holds me there. Then I finish the book and it’s back to reality. Always a sad day when I finish a book. I know I can’t be the only one who gets completely sucked into a book like this. If I am then you guys are reading the wrong stories! Today I wanted to introduce you to a friend of mine’s newest venture….Dark Dawn. The author, Melissa Brodsky is made of pure awesome, seriously she is. She writes such engaging stories, I used to stalk her site for her short stories and she’s such a sweet heart. Melissa together with Nicole Andrews Moore created Dark Dawn. Here take a peek into the story.

Blurb:
In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth, and everything in between. The In-between was unplanned, unexpected, and unwelcome. Every action causes a reaction and when mankind was born, so were the Fae. Suddenly it was up to Heaven to save Earth. God created Angels to right his wrong, to save human kind. A deal was made, an agreement of sorts. The Angels would protect humanity from Fae domination and destruction, and in return they would have inhuman strength and immortality. Thus a time of angels swooping in to save humans from free will, bad decisions, and big mistakes began. They protected humans from the Fae who intentionally enslaved them, leaving shells of humans, or worse, leaving nothing at all.
Even God doesn’t always learn from mistakes. Angels were given freedom of choice. Some Angels chose wrong. When some of them spread their wings, they went too far, and just as Icharus was punished for getting too close to the sun, they were punished for getting too close to mankind.
So they fell. Falling was the easy part.

Are you grabbing onto the edge of your seat? Yeah I was too. So imagine my excitement when I was approached about doing a review AND a giveaway. I’ll get to the giveaway in a minute but first let me gush about the book.

One thing I loved about this book was while I may have had a hint of what was going to happen, I really had no clue and was proven wrong. That to me is always a huge deal in a book. You always want to keep your audience guessing. If you have a story that is too revealing then you wont keep the readers attention and they’ll never finish. The version I read was the MA version and while definitely adult it wasn’t so hot and heavy that it took away from the story line. It was very tastefully done. In fact it may have been closer to PG compared to some of the paranormal romance novels I have read. It was a refreshing change.
The characters…I really truly madly deeply love the idea that the main characters are angels. Not just people who have wings and fly but REAL angels created my the holy man himself. Along with being immortal, strong, and equipped with beautiful wings, each angel had their own power if you will. More of a gift bestowed upon them. Each gift fits the character perfectly and made the character into an individual as opposed to just this group of angels with no depth.

I don’t want to give away to much of the story line but I don’t want to close with the fact that while the book may not have had a cliff hanger ending (THANK YOU…seriously not a fan of cliff hangers lol) it left a few things open and unanswered to lead into the second book of the series, Dark Destiny which is scheduled to be out in 2014. The ONLY downside to that is now I have to wait for it, I am so impatient when I find a series I love. Oh well at least I will have something to look forward to right?

And now on to the giveaway I promised! I am giving away four ebook copies of Dark Dawn to FOUR of my readers! Since Dark Dawn is only available as an ebook right now please make sure you have some form of reader prior to entering this giveaway. I’d hate to have someone win who has no way of reading the book. Get UnCommon Review & Giveaway

UPDATE

HUGE Congrats to the winner, commenter #11…Carissa Rogers!

I received a case to facilitate my review

I love seeing my kids artwork and having three children I am never short of it. When my daughters art was picked for the cities All-City & Faculty Art Show I was beyond proud, elated. My daughter and I visited her art and it was the cutest thing ever to see her reaction in seeing her art project on display with the rest of the schools out here. So when I was approached about doing a review for Uncommon  which specializes in making cases for your iPhones and iPads with your children’s art I had to do it. What better way to cherish my child’s art then having it on display for years to come!

This photo was from art night at the school before they had chosen her art work
This is the photo from art night that I used to make my case with

And this is the beautiful case that I received

The colors in the photo don’t do the case justice. They are exactly as her picture is.

The case is simple, not heavy but still protect the iPad. The important slots that you need access to are still open to you.
And the camera is open as well

UnCommon offers many different designs, either pre-made or one’s you can make yourself with your photos. You can make cases for iPhones, iPods and iPads. They also offer deflector covers for MacBooks and screen cloths too.  Prices vary depending on the type of device you choose and design but they’re pretty affordable. Seeing as some of us change cases for our phone’s and iPads more often then we change purses that’s a huge plus.

Using their website is easy as pie. Once you have created an account simply upload and image and then select “Customize & Buy”. From there it will show your image on the device of your choosing. Make sure to choose an image that will fill the screen around the dotted lines as that is the recommended area for your design to look it’s best. The entire process is pain free and fast. Once you have this step done simply add it to your cart and check out.

I personally love that I now get to carry around my daughters art work on my iPad. And yes I totally show it off just so they can see her art.

Today I get to offer a $50 GetUncommon.com Gift Certificate to one of my readers. Perfect timing for Mother’s Day!

Mandatory entry:

  • Visit GetUncommon.com and let me know which design you would choose if you won and if you have a specific piece of art already in mind.

Optional entries:

  • Share the YouTube video above and leave a link here of where you shared the video
  • Tweet about the giveaway and leave a link of your tweet
Example tweet “I just entered to #win a $50 GC to @GetUncommon from @Shanamama9197 http://bit.ly/10qfUQG”
This giveaway is open to residents of the US only and will end on May 3, 2013
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I received a case to facilitate my review. No other compensation has been given. My opinions, as always are my own.

V2 Cigs Giveaway

This is a sponsored post. The company who sponsored it compensated me via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value to write it. Regardless of payment, I only recommend products or services I would personally use and believe to be a good fit for my readers.

A lot of smokers  live in a state of denial. Denial that smoking is bad for them or denial that it stinks, or that it’s doing them harm, or that it actually gives them the calming affect they’re seeking. Smoking actually raises your heart rate and blood pressure so even if you think you may be relaxed your body is not. I know this because I used to smoke. I smoked off and on for ten years. Starting at the age of 14 I picked up a smoke and that was that. I still remember the very first time I smoked with my friend Rachel. I kept thinking gosh this is so bad if my Mom finds out I am going to be in soooo much trouble, which of course meant I couldn’t not do it. I didn’t smoke constantly, that came later. I was very good at hiding it too. I became some what of a pro at it which looking back is probably not as good as I thought it was. It may have been better to get caught and then I may have never smoked for so long.

But alas that was not how things worked out. I quit each time I found out I was pregnant and this last time I didn’t start up until after my youngest was a year old. I wouldn’t have started back up but I went through some very emotional struggles and caved. See I was an emotional smoker. If I was angry, sad, wanted to celebrate I would smoke. If I drank alcohol I smoked. If I was reading a really good book that I couldn’t put down I tended to chain smoke. I used smoking as my selfish reason. I told myself I knew what I was doing to my body and I didn’t care. It’s the one and only selfish thing I do and I enjoyed it so why should I stop. I liked the smell and I loved smoking. And then my husband got diagnosed with COPD. I knew then it was time and I had to quit not just for myself but for my husband and my three kids. I wish I had thought to use Ecigs then because I’ll tell you what, the withdraws from nicotine….NOT fun.

Here’s a few reasons Ecigs are a great alternative to regular cigarettes:

  1. Ecigs are less expensive than buying regular cigarettes (if you order the kits and not just the disposable Ecigs that you can find at  convenience stores).
  2. You can also save even more money by visiting www.ecigarettereviewed.com for coupons.
  3. Electronic cigarettes contain NO tobacco. That’s right zero tobacco which means NO second hand smoke. They do have nicotine which is delivered through the vapor which you can get in assorted flavors and nicotine strengths.
  4. You can choose from four different nicotine amounts so they’re a great tool for people trying to quit. If one thing that you really struggle with is the hand to mouth gesture you can use a zero nicotine Ecig so you can still do the gesture without having any of the nicotine.
    1. The four different mg you can choose from are:
  •  Zero
  • Light (6mg)
  • Medium (12 mg)
  • Full (18 mg)

To find out more information on Ecigs be sure to check out this V2 Cigs Review where they go into depth on everything about Ecigs.

If you are trying to quite smoking, know someone who may be considering quitting or simply want to switch to Ecigs instead of regular cigarettes, Ecigarette Reviewed is hosting a V2 Cigs “Express Yourself” Giveaway where they are giving away a total of 50 V2 Cigs Express Kits and the V2 10-Flavor Sampler. Every week for the first three weeks of the giveaway there will be 10 winners announced and 20 winners will be announced on the last week of the giveaway. So be sure to enter the V2 Cigs Giveaway as you have lots of chances to win!

Shutterfly’s Home Decor Giveaway

The first official day of Spring is March 20th. That’s only nine days. One week two days. Two hundred and sixteen hours. Either way you put it it’s coming up quickly! For me Spring time is a wonderful time, the flowers start to bloom, the trees get their beautiful green back and the weather warms up enough for everyone to play outside. The other thing I love is the annual spring cleaning of the house. Okay I lied, I loathe it. I am unorganized and cleaning is my least favorite thing to do BUT I do it anyways every year around this time. My favorite part of spring cleaning is rearranging. I typically rearrange the kids rooms and the living room. That includes the furniture, the bookshelf and the pictures. I try to mix up the photos adding new one’s and rearranging current one’s to give it a fresh look.

Right now I have zero photo’s on my mantle. In fact I may or may not still have my Christmas town scene on my mantle. For shame I know. But once those come down which will hopefully be soon I will need to put something else up there. I love showcasing my family and what better place to put it then above my mantle right. I think this classic Monogram Black Canvas (middle pic) would fit perfectly above my mantle or maybe the Love Collage (left pic) would go better or what about Acrylic Print? Shutterfly has an entire Home Decor section online with sixteen different photo decor products.

    • Canvas Prints
    • Fleece Photo Blankets
    • Woven Photo Blankets
    • Dimensional Wall Art
    • Desktop Plaque
    • Acrylic Photo Block
    • Mounted Wall Art
    • Photo Cubes
    • Acrylic Prints
    • Plates
    • Cups
    • Ornaments

Between all the different design options with each product the options are endless and Shutterfly recently added two new products to the line. New Canvas Print Designs –  and New Decorative Wall Decals. The Flower Power decals are absolutely adorable and would look perfect in my daughters room around her window. Even the colors match perfectly with her walls and bed spread. Adorable isn’t it?

Tomorrow March 12th join Resourceful Mom for the Shutterfly Pinning Party. You can find out more about the party and RSVP here. I encourage you to check it out, a party with Amy is always guaranteed to be fun!

Lay N Go Lite Review & Giveaway

Don’t you just love when you’ve cleaned the kids toys up only to end up finding them everywhere five minutes later? Yeah, me neither. Especially when said toys are Legos, Littlest Pet Shop or really any tiny little toy that the kids seem to get a lot of.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was some type of mat out there that kept toys inside a contained area yet still allowed for kids to play with them? And when the kids were done playing then you could just pick up the mat and it would become like a bag so all the toys were still contained and all set up to be easily put away? Sound too good to be true? At first I thought so but guess what people….it’s not! The thing that sticks out to me the most about the Lay N Go is that it is a Mom-invented product. Amy Fazackerley created the Lay N Go and she does all of work to make and distribute it all on her own. I bow to thee Amy, you are amazing.

      Photobucket
This is the Lay N Go Lite. It’s an 18 inch mini activity mat that converts into a carrying bag. It closes with a nylon cord, the cord locks with a closing system that you have to press down on to close and open which keeps small toys inside so you have no worries of it opening and toys falling all over the place. One thing I really like about this product is how easy it is to use, not only for me to do for my children but my children can also do it themselves. They can bring it in the car, a restaurant, a friends house or even just to play at the kitchen table. There is even a little Velcro storage pocket on the front so you can store the drawstring when closing or carrying the bag. My daughter likes to keep the drawstring out and carry it as a “purse”. And it’s reversible!

      Photobucket

      Photobucket

This is usually how things start out when the kids pull out the Legos….

      Photobucket

The next picture would have been my entire table covered with Legos and the floor around the table and I’m sure there would somehow be some in the kitchen. I don’t know how it happens, it’s like they have legs and just go everywhere. But guess what, no more! This was how it went down last time. My daughter and I picked out a handful of Legos from her Lego box and placed them in her Lay N Go. She spent hours playing this way and when she was done there was no mess all over the table or on the floor. It was all contained in the same space as when she started playing. Inside the Lay N Go. Can I tell you how awesome it is not to have to clean up under the table and not have to worry about stepping on Legos every.single.time they play with them.

      Photobucket

When picking out our Lay-N-Go I went with a neutral color in hopes that all of the kids would use it. Since having it here and seeing that in fact all of my do kids enjoy using it I am tempted to get each of the kids their own for the holidays. While the Lay N Go Lite is only offered in five colors (blue, green, orange, red and pink) the original Lay N  Go is also offered in the same colors. Me personally, I want the pink. What can I say, I am a sucker for any and all things pink.
      Photobucket

Right now Lay N Go is having a giveaway and it is an awesome one. They are giving away a Holiday Giveaway pack. In this gift pack of pure awesome there will be (1) Large Blue Lay-n-Go, (1) LITE Blue Lay-n-Go (1) Black Lay-n-Go COMSO, a gift card to Sephora and a “surprise” set of tiny toy pieces (hmmmm Legos maybe?) The total retail value of this giveaway is over $200.00! See I told you, awesome. Be sure to enter today as the contest only runs through December 15, 2012

      https://www.facebook.com/layandgo/app_201143516562748

And for you, my awesome and loyal readers I get to give away a Lay N Go Lite in blue to one of you! Giveaway is open to the US only and ends on December 12, 2012 at 11:59pm. I will email the winner and they have 48 hours to respond. Good luck everyone!

There are two ways to enter. Please do the mandatory entry first in order for your second entry to count.
Mandatory Entry: Who would you like to win this for and why?
Extra Entry: Tweet about the giveaway. Sample tweet:

Cradle of Rome 2 review & giveaway

My two boys love video games. I don’t believe they have ever come across a game that they didn’t like. With the school year starting we have a strict no video game rule during the week to keep the kids focused on school. So during the summer they may go a little overboard in the playing of video games. Normally I am not a fan of it but I went ahead and let loose this summer and let them play to their hearts content.
One of the games my oldest played was Cradle of Rome 2. The big thing for me is that it requires actual thinking. Not just another game that you have to find the villain but where you actually need to use your brain to accomplish the levels. My son is eight and he had no difficulties with the first few levels but did mention that he had some difficulty getting beyond that. He liked the challenge and didn’t give up!
In Cradle of Rome 2 the object of the game is to swap tiles so you have matching tiles of three or more in a row. This is how you build buildings, palaces, cities and empires. The games suggested age range is E for everyone so if you want to steal borrow the game from your kids that’s quite acceptable. I may or may not have done this.

Cradle of Rome 2 challenges players to race against time by swapping tiles in an intense match-3 game. With a 100 levels available, players must earn enough gold and materials to return Rome to its former glory and ascend to the position of Caesar. Providing simple, yet addictive, gameplay on both the 3DS and DS platforms, Cradle of Rome 2 lets players use their earnings to build houses and magnificent palaces as they develop their small settlements into flourishing empires.

For my loyal readers you all have the chance to win a copy of Cradle of Rome 2 for your Nintendo 3DS. To keep things simple there are only two ways to enter. In order to do the additional you must complete the mandatory entry first.

      Mandatory Entry:
Who do you want to win this for? If you say yourself don’t worry it still counts!

      Additional Entries:
Tweet about the giveaway and comment with a link to your tweet
