There are so many things to love about the holidays. It always seems to slow down around this time of year. The air feels calmer, snow on the ground brings a sense of peace, spending time with loved one’s and friends. Enjoying amazing meals. It’s part of the reason the holiday season is my favorite my favorite time of the year. Now let’s not forget about holiday shopping season. This time of year seems to be all about exploring all of the new technology that is out there. The holidays seem to bring an abundance of deals, people and the latest and greatest tech. Whether it be computers, laptops, cell phones, cameras, it’s all so amazing it can sometimes be overwhelming in trying to decide all on your own which is the best fit for you and your family. One thing in particular that I’ve had my eye on lately is the OLED TV by LG.

I give you perfection….the ultimate display!

LG_UHD_smaller file
Your first kiss….baby’s first steps….the majesty of a desert sunset. There are some things in life that defy all explanation and have to be experienced in order to be believed. Such is the case with LG’s latest display technology. With deeper and richer colors, stunning contrast and ingeniously curved screens, it is unlike any technology you’ve ever seen, and it delivers a picture that exceeds your wildest imagination.

A little bit of information on the LG OLED TV:

  • LG OLED TV is only 0.21″ thick at its thinnest point!
  • LG OLED  TV has Infinite Contrast that ranges from the most blazing whites to the deepest blacks. AND, LG’s exclusive 4 Color Pixel technology delivers bright, vibrant colors. This allows for picture quality that is truly spectacular.
  • Curved screen. The curve of the screen is designed so that your eyes are equally distant from all parts of the screen when sitting in front of the TV, providing a natural and immersive viewing experience. It’s an artful evolution of the traditional flat screen, designed for maximum impact.
  • Find content faster with webOS. The intuitive webOS user interface features a redesigned Launcher menu that pulls together all of your entertainment choices. webOS serves up entertainment** options that neatly organize your recent viewing history, what’s on live TV, and what you might like to watch next, while the integrated LG Store is ready to deliver the latest movies, TV shows and apps.
  • Voice Mate remote. Change the channel, open an app or find something new with a wave of your hand, the scroll of a wheel, or LG’s unique Voice Mate with natural speech recognition. And now you can control your compatible Blu-ray player, home theater system, set-top box and sound bar with just one remote. Spend less time navigating and searching for remotes and more time enjoying your entertainment (this is only available on certain models).

LG_OLED_Infill_smaller file 2
Now doesn’t the LG OLED sound ahhhhmazing? I personally think it would go amazing in my living room. One of my favorites features is the curved screen. I’ve never seen a TV with a curved screen before and the idea behind it is genius. Part of buying a big purchase for your home is learning all about the product and deciding if it will in fact be a good fit for your family. When making decisions like this I like to visit Best Buy and speak to knowledgeable staff that are actually trained and aware of the products that they carry. i have never been disappointing by a Best Buy employee when I’ve asked a technical question. And if the person who’s helping you doesn’t have the answer they always make sure to find someone who may.

You can bet this TV is on my wishlist this year. What are you Hinting at this season?

100 Days of Real Food Cookbook

I received a copy of Lisa’s new book 100 Days of Real Food in order to facilitate this review

Last year I switched to a cleaner and leaner way of eating. To say it was easy would be a bit of a lie. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world for me because living in Oklahoma clean eating isn’t not very popular. Fattening, greasy huge portioned food, that’s what’s popular out here. I have always been a huge salad lover so increasing my intake on those wasn’t an issue but eliminating almost all dairy was not fun. In additional to cutting out dairy I also gave up sugar, red meat (which I wasn’t a big fan of anyways) and after a while I started steering myself towards a vegetarian diet. The hardest part for me was finding recipes that were 1) healthy 2) looked good 3) kid friendly. You can laugh now, I am. This is seriously not easy to find.

So I do what every normal person does when in search of something….scour the internet. One site I came across was 100 Days of Real Food. Hello instant love. Not only is the site gorgeous but guess what it’s a real person behind it! Lisa Leake is wife, mom to two of the cutest little girls ever and she creates some amazing, good, real recipes including one of my all time favorites (I’ll get to in a minute). On top of having a hugely popular website Lisa found the time to write a recipe book. Now it’s not just your normal recipe book. In addition to her recipes she also goes in to great detail about what real food really is, tips on shopping for real food, how to implement changing your eating habits to switch to real foods and she even includes budgeting tips! I really love that the recipes included are not out of this world recipes that no one can make because they call for ingredients that you have to special order and are to out there for kids to even try. They’re recipes we all grew up with and love and family friendly. Like homemade chicken noodle soup, carrot cake with whipped cream-cheese frosting (oh my yum), pulled pork, ribs and sooooo much more.

Leake family at farmers market

One of my favorite foods to eat is anything Italian. Even just the basic pasta and sauce? You can’t really go wrong there. I swear in my past life I must have been an Italian. The only thing I don’t do is sausage, other then that I will devour it all. And when I say devour I mean seriously DE-VOUR. There’s something about that type of food that is comforting, filling, satisfying and just plain delicious.

Enter Eggplant Parmesan….I’ll wait as you salivate over this for a minute.

Shortcut Eggplant Parm2Eggplant Parmesan has to be my all time favorite Italian dish. Going out to eat can be very costly and while I do enjoy eggplant parm in a restaurant it doesn’t always agree with my stomach since cutting back on dairy. Two years ago I wouldn’t have had a problem, I would have drooled at the amount of cheese they throw in between the eggplant and I would have added more cheese once it was put in front of me. Cheese, as delicious as it is, isn’t always wonderful in large quantities. And that’s one of the things I love about Lisa’s recipe from her new cookbook 100 Days of Real Food. The eggplant Parmesan has just the right amount of mozzarella on it. Just enough to give the flavor but not enough to drown the flavor of the eggplant or make you regret eating this meal.

And because Lisa is so awesome I get to share a sneak peak of her book here with you and since I am raving on and on about her Eggplant Parmesan dish what else would I share.

Shortcut Eggplant Parm Recipe

If you are food lover like me but want to go the cleaner, healthier real food route I highly recommend checking out Lisa’s book 100 Days of Real Food. At Amazon it’s under $20. It’s a great investment in getting yourself and your family started on a healthier life style.

Enjoying Fall with Amazing Smells #SmellsClean

This post contains sponsored content.

SmellsClean1

You know how when you see a new place you immediately think “Oh my desk would look perfect here, the bed over there, a mirror right there, etc etc”. And once you set everything up how you visioned it it may not work. Yeah there has been a lot of that.  So to say that this last week has been filled with cleaning, moving, putting things together, decorating rooms, redecorating and doing it all over again would be an understatement. But it’s one of the things I love about moving. Putting your stamp on a new house and making it a home. Call it luck, or really maybe it’s just good timing on my part but I moved in to a new house last week, right when fall started so not only was it not insanely hot outside but I get to decorate the house with fall colors and immerse myself in delicious fall flavors. I may have mentioned one, or two…possibly twenty times now that my favorite season is fall. The change in the weather, the colors and how things just seem to slow down a little bit. But my absolute favorite part of this season are the smells! There is nothing that compares to the smell of fall flavored soups cooking all day and the aromas filling the house. Okay maybe cooking a fresh pumpkin or apple pie.

Since I have recently gone back to being a full time working parent and between that and sharing custody with my ex, time seems to be escaping me lately so unpacking has been a bit of a slower process then it used to be. In fact I didn’t get my kitchen completely set up until this weekend. It was driving me batty so having that done was a huge relief. But since most of my “kitchen” was located in an unmentionable amount of boxes the best way to help me relax and get into my fall groove was via candles. I may or may not have a slight obsession with candles. I have them in nearly every room, excluding the kids. Oh, maybe I can find some safe flame-less candles for my daughters room. I bet she would love that! In the mean time we’ve settled with an air freshener that OMG, it smells amazing.

One thing I’ve been doing lately is when I wake up to make my morning cup of coffee (literally it’s the first thing I do when I open my eyes) is I light my candle after preparing my coffee. Coffee first, then candle (Gotta remember safety folks, no lighting matches while half asleep). It’s a wonderful little pick me up in addition to the aroma of coffee. I’ve been switching back and forth between these amazing pumpkin melts and a macintosh apple candle. I just can’t make up my mind which I like more. They both smell good enough to eat. Sidenote…I love my new coffee mug. Owls, what can I say, it’s another obsession.

DSC_0006

Like I mentioned above, I may or may not have an obsession with candles. I have two in my bathroom right now. But here’s the thing. Not only does it let me bring in my favorite scents but it also eliminates any possible odors that may be lingering around. Three kids sharing a bathroom, yeah there’s definite odors that linger. So getting a room to smell clean in between cleaning days, I call that winning.

DSC_0016

Now I digress, candles, waxes and oils are not the only way to bring fall smells inside your home. Baking is another way. Delicious soups, treats, dinners and breads are all great reminders of fall. Bringing foliage inside is also a wonderful way to bring the outdoors in. People think dead/orange leaves and pine cones are just things to be tossed aside but make a centerpiece out of those two items with tall cream colored candles in the middle and you’ve got a gorgeous table arrangement or even a fireplace mantle display. Hey I may not be crafty but the ideas are there.

I’d love to hear what your ideas are for bring your favorite seasons smells into your home!

Shameless Saturday

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!  I am currently sitting here devouring my fourth cup of coffee, doing work and watching Blue’s Clue’s (yeah I watch cartoons and multitask like a pro, that’s how I roll) with my little man I’m thinking how the sight of me earlier this morning was a little hilarious. Well actually no one knew any better so to everyone else it’s not be funny at all, but here’s the thing, we all do things that we try to pull off as normal but only we know the secret right? And that got me thinking what if I were to spill those secrets, wouldn’t it be funny? Would others join me? And thus Shameless Saturday was born

If I have confused you don’t worry, it’s something I excel at. Heck I even do it to myself sometimes. So I’ll give you an example by spilling my Shameless Saturday. The first of many to come cause let’s face it, I’m not Mary Poppins perfect (despite me telling people I am) and dude sometimes when I haven’t had my coffee my head just isn’t in the game yo. Okay enough rambling, let’s get on with it. Dun dun dun….I give you Shameless Saturday!

shameless3

At one o’clock a.m. my phone rang. It was my ex. He informed me he forgot a few necessary items at the house and was wondering if I would take our oldest to the airport so he could come spend the weekend with him and bring the things he forgot. Sure, I say no problem. Yeah 4:30 wake up call comes quickly so being half dead asleep I pack a bag for my oldest, grab the scripts, iPad, toothbrush, gosh I hope I didn’t forget anything. Wake the boys up, get them dressed, brush their teeth, do my makeup, brush my hair, grab a huge cup of coffee and we’re outie! It wasn’t until about the halfway point that I realized dude, your breath stinks. Well that’s odd, I brushed my…oh wait, that’s right. I totally forgot to do that. Brownie point for me! As if that wasn’t cool enough I totally put on the clothes I wore the day before. Even the socks. Yup I did it. Now while everyone who saw me thought I looked awesome and cute for 5am (cause that’s what I told myself) I on the other hand knew dude, you’re rocking yesterdays outfit and your breath is worse then a dragons right now.

Seven hours later I still haven’t brushed my teeth, instead I have made another pot of coffee and changed my clothes and typed this here awesome post to share with the world just how awesome I really am. High five!

I hope you will join in with me in sharing some of your shameless moments and know that we’ve all had them. Be sure to link up, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy in the awesomeness that is life. Now I am off to go brush my teeth.

  • Carina

Omg so hilarious!! Now I don't know if this counts but I've went to walmart looking hella tore back and with breath bad as a dragons lol

    • shanamama

Dude it all counts. If we look back and think wth, did I really do that it counts 😉

Train releases a new CD: Bulletproof Picasso

I participated in the Train Bulletproof Picasso album review program as a member of One2One Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.

I seem to be a little behind on the times when it comes to music lately so it wasn’t until a few years ago that I first heard of Train. But when I did I fell in love. The first song I heard was marry and like the sentimental person that I am I cried listening to it. I have been a fan ever since.

If I were to explain Train in a few words I would say soft, loving, healing and enjoyable. They aren’t what you typically think of when you hear the phrase rock band thrown around. There’s no heavy screaming or mean lyrics in their songs. A lot of them have deeper meanings and are written around love. As a huge fan of songs that reach out and touch you, I couldn’t not like them. Music has always played an important role in my life and when I find the rare group that feels like they’re speaking to you…you know you’ve come across a wonderful band.

Here is a list of all the new songs that will be on the Bulletproof Picasso album:
1. Cadillac, Cadillac
2. Bulletproof Picasso
3. Angel In Blue Jeans
4. Give It All
5. Wonder What You’re Doing For The Rest Of Your Life
6. Son Of A Prison Guard
7. Just A Memory
8. I’m Drinkin’ Tonight
9. I Will Remember
10. The Bridge
11. Baby, Happy Birthday
12. Don’t Grow Up So Fast

I am happy to share that Train is coming out with a new album (their seventh album!) Bulletproof Picasso, due to hit stores on September 16th! So far I am loving all of the songs but the one that really gets me is “Don’t Grow Up So Fast”. Even if you aren’t a fan I really think you should listen to that song. Especially if you a mother, or a father. All the things your parent’s told you and you argued about that now you look into your child’s’ eyes and realize wow, they were right. Yeah that. It touches deep.

You can catch a sneak peak of a few of their songs right here because how rude would it be not to share in the awesomeness that is Train!

Don’t want to wait? You can pre-order a copy of Bulletproof Picasso on both Amazon and iTunes! Also be sure to check them out on all the social networks : Official Website http://savemesanfrancisco.com Twitter http://twitter.com/train YouTube http://youtube.com/train & Facebook http://facebook.com/train

Guardians of the Galaxy Now in Theaters!

I’ll be honest, when I first heard about this movie I had no interest in it. And then I realized Chris Pratt was in it….yum. And then I took the time to read the story line and watch a preview and I was hooked. If that wasn’t enough I got to see an extended preview last month (SUCH A TEASE) and I knew I HAD to see it. No if’s ands or butt’s about it, I was going to see this movie. And now I finally can. Guardians of the Galaxy was released in theaters today people!

Sunset Sunday: Tulsa

It has been WAY too long since I have done a Sunset Sunday post. Heck, it’s been even longer since I’ve actually pulled my camera out and just…explored. But I was able to do just that last weekend while in Tulsa and man have I really missed it. It felt so good to just get out there and enjoy the beauty all around me. Went on a nice long walk down the river and back, and then across the bridge. Sometimes your just have to slow down and enjoy what nature has to offer.

If you’re ever in or around the Tulsa area and looking to take a nice walk with beautiful scenery I recommend visiting Riverside Drive to walk down the River Park area.

I can’t wait to pick up my camera more often and get back out and explore!

ff1924e2af76141ecb6169655cd79dc1
It’s a simple fact of life that along with the start of school comes the sickies. Especially for the younger ones. I have three kids going back to school this year. A fifth grader (OMG when did that happen), a 2nd grader and one into Kindergarten. My oldest has always had a weak immune system. He’s been hospitalized a few times for pneumonia, bronchitis and valley fever so I take immunizations and his well being very seriously. As I do with my other children but with him I take a little bit of extra caution. All three of my kids will be getting the flu shot. I know it’s a dreaded process for our children but I play the better safe than sorry rule and so far we’ve been one of the lucky families when it comes to the flu (knock on wood). Along with the flu I will making sure they are up to date on the rest of their immunizations. I may not be the typical mom who gets them all done at once because my kids are very sensitive to vaccines, and we have strong allergies in the family,  so we do no more than two at a time and it works for us.

Collage1

In preparation for the coming school year I have already started to stock up on much needed supplies. When shopping for wellness items I try to think outside of the box and not just grab a bunch of over the counter medicines. I think what would my kids want if they were down for the count. Jr usually spends a lot of time sleeping while Mantha wants to cuddle. You may spend a little extra money thinking like a kid, at least I do. The first thing I think of is how they may not want to drink or eat so my first thought is to grab some water. Sure, not the most kid friendly form of hydration but it’s the simplest and best way to keep them hydrated when sick. You can purchase the little packets of flavoring and make ice pops with them. They think they’re getting a popsicle and you know they are keeping hydrated. I also came across something new while browsing Walgreens wellness section. Good for you lollipops! Yeah lollipops that aren’t just sugar. They had two varieties, one for sore throats and one chocked full of Vitamin C. I don’t know about you but I think these are fabulous!

Collage2

Naturally I chose to grab a bag of Vitamin C lollipops. I just couldn’t help myself. I give my kids their daily vitamins but the little extra boost in a kid friendly form is always helpful when your little one’s are sick. Reminds me of getting lollipops at the Dr’s office after a shot as a child. Mantha is notorious for getting really bad chapped lips, especially when sick so I picked up some fun new flavors for her. And at a dollar each you can simply dispose of them to not contaminate them after they are well. Tissues, you can never have a too many nice soft tissues for your wee ones noses. I love that I can pick up a few school supplies to a jump start on my back to school shopping as well.

8-1

With school now less then a month away I’ve already made appointments for my kids to get their immunizations and flu shots. Right now until October 14th, when you get a flu shot OR any other immunization at your local Walgreens, Walgreens will provide a life-saving vaccine through the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. In the Get a Shot, Give a Shot program everyone can help. It’s heartbreaking to know that not everyone is as fortunate to be able to afford healthcare, or even have healthcare as an option.

Screen Shot 2014-07-21 at 4.00.56 PMWalgreens will give up to THREE million vaccines to children that who cannot afford vaccines through the Get a Shot, Give a Shot program. All you need to do is get a shot and Walgreens will take care of the rest. Walgreens accepts most insurance plans and you can verify your coverage prior to your appointment if you are unsure. Even if you don’t have insurance, the services are priced lower than routine doctor office, urgent care, and emergency room. To learn more about this program click here.

Wordless Wednesday: Enjoying Tulsa

Now that I’ve lived in a small town for three years it’s funny to me how I get surprised by the little things when I go to a big city. Being a Cali girl I should be used to it but I guess this small town living has grown on me a bit. This last weekend I visited Tulsa and went on a beautiful walk along the river and despite the insane humidity I was completely relaxed and just….happy.
